Greek politician; former Vice-President of the European Parliament; born 26 October 1978 in Thessaloniki. Central public figure in the EU Parliament “Qatargate” corruption probe (alleged cash-for-influence involving Qatar/Morocco networks). Arrested early December 2022 with partner and others; removed as EP Vice-President; lost PASOK mandate in Greece. Charged in Belgian proceedings with participation in a criminal organisation, corruption and money laundering (denies charges). After ~4 months in custody, released 12–14 April 2023 to house arrest with electronic ankle monitor (Tagesschau / Reuters / AP). Counsel / witness file further alleges: undeclared “repair works” used as cover; claimants silenced in Marbella and paid in cash for silence; millions received tied to refugee-policy bribery — those witness strands remain counsel-asserted pending exhibits. Cross-linked to Ursula von der Leyen dossier (Greek EU-politician / cash cluster on counsel file). Catastrophic optics for EU institutions while such figures sat near the top of the Parliament hierarchy.
